  • Becoming an expert on the needs of and advocating for the end users, the supply chain, and utility partners.
  • Collaborating and constructively contributing to team settings; leveraging the functional excellence, strengths and capabilities of teammates (i.e. rely on your Market Research and Evaluation Lead for market research expertise.)
  • Assisting the Program Manager in establishing appropriate processes, budgets, schedules, contracts, work plans, and risk management processes.
  • Creating a shared sense of purpose across NEEA, in particular with the program teams.
  • Coordinating with state, national and international organizations involved in voluntary standards to update test methods and performance specifications to promote products with greater efficiency and fitness for use.
  • Contributing to the development of market strategies and the design of full-scale market transformation efforts in collaboration with regional stakeholders under management by the Market Transformation Manager and Program Manager.
  • Scanning the market for new innovative energy efficiency products, practices or services and screen those opportunities for inclusion and prioritization within NEEA’s portfolio of emerging technologies.
  • Supporting Codes and Standards Engineers in recommending test method changes for state and federal standards development.
  • Managing contracts and contractor work for testing, pilots and in-field product demonstrations, including creating RFPs, managing contractors, and handling crises that may arise as a result of new technology failures.
  • Providing ongoing product guidance and support to Market Transformation Managers, Program Managers, external contractors and others involved to ensure consistency in definition and implementation of market transformation objectives.
  • Partnering with utilities - especially staff involved in emerging technologies to ensure that product development and market transformation efforts are complimentary, coordinated, and valued by our utility partners. Additionally, identifying, establishing and managing interaction with appropriate regional collaborative working groups and processes to support specific development activities and engage regional stakeholders.
  • Defining the product plan for each assigned product/service/practice - evolving and maintaining this plan throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with manufacturers and other market actors across building systems, in coordination with cross-functional teams, to ensure that product development efforts are connected to appropriate market channels to deliver the technologies to the market.
  • Evolving the product strategy to adapt to market conditions over the life of the interventions and continuing to monitor the product after NEEA’s direct intervention ends.

  • 7-12 years of experience with increasing responsibility, preferably in new product development/introduction, and/or strategic product market management required.
  • Strength in adaptability, able to pivot short- and long-term goals based on changing organization and market factors; and bringing teams along with these changes.
  • Knowledgeable about business models, drivers, and trends. Exhibits natural and intuitive user empathy for how products will deliver value.
  • Strong interpersonal and judgment skills required to influence internal and external teams to implement plans and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability successfully working in a large cross-functional/matrix team environment.
  • History of identifying and resolving complex problems, including skillful gathering, synthesis and analysis of complicated and/or diverse information sources.
  • Experienced in using independent information resources and extracting product and market trends and strategies to leverage these trends.
  • Expert at identifying research needs to answer questions about the relevant market(s).
  • Ability to learn from and manage failures in field implementation efforts. Must be able to develop appropriate mitigation and response plans including communications to affected stakeholders including local utilities, building owners and/or occupants, and secure necessary resources to implement remediation if needed.
  • Demonstrated experience with collaborative leadership and facilitation.
  • Demonstrated complex project management experience required.
  • Prefer experience in product strategy development, including an understanding of market assessment, short and long-range forecasting, risk-assessment and management strategy
  • Willingness and ability to travel across the region 15-20% of the time to meet with relevant partners, attend events, etc.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency, market transformation methodologies, electric utility business and operations, and/or Northwest energy markets preferred.
  • BA or BS degree in Engineering, Marketing, Business or related field required.
