As a Principal Structures Engineer every day at Expleo will be out of the ordinary and will require you to be dynamic and responsive to changes in technology, innovation, and client requirements. You will have the opportunity to lead pre-concept/concept surface & sub-surface vessel design, complex engineering design & analysis tasks, the creation of new & innovative tools & processes, the delivery of engineering consultancy services, and the development of new business opportunities, such as decarbonisation solutions & other emerging technologies across a wide range of global maritime programmes.
- Provide mentoring support, guidance & leadership to aid with the development of our Engineers to grow their technical & behavioural skills, knowledge & experience.

- Lead in the development of the Marine Structures & Analysis Function and provide support into resource planning and capability growth to support business needs.

Professional member of a relevant engineering institution (e.g., RINA, IMarEST, IMechE, IET).
Recognised as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer by the UK Engineering Council (or actively working towards achieving accredited status)
The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 10 years post-graduate experience (12 years for non-degree qualified) working in either the commercial or naval maritime domain.
We are interested in engaging with all candidates with the necessary experience; however, it should be noted that naval projects may be subject to initial security considerations (e.g., sole UK nationality and eligible for ‘Security Check’ (SC) or ‘Developed Vetting’ (DV) security clearance).
Degree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline (e.g., Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Material Science or Mathematics), or equivalent experience in the naval and commercial ship design, construction, or maintenance domain.
- Experience of linear, non-linear, dynamic and time-domain analysis methodologies, including both empirical and Finite Element approaches.
- A clear understanding of the role of structural engineering throughout all stages of the design lifecycle (CADMID).
- Experience of working in multi-company and engineering discipline teams with an ability to communicate effectively.
- Experience of using design & analysis software packages (e.g., FORAN, Ship Constructor, TRIBON, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Ansys Structural/Fluent, SESAM, Abaqus CAE/Standard, MatLab, MathCAD, MS Excel)
- Experienced in at least one of the following key technical knowledge areas:Structural analysis and design (metallic and/or non-metallic)Design and assessment for explosive shock survivabilityManagement and assessment of structural defectsMaterials engineering and testing in the marine environmentWhole-ship and system concept design development
- A clear understanding of the role of structural engineering throughout all stages of the design lifecycle (CADMID).Experience of whole ship design including assessment of performance, design integration, construction, and through-life maintenance.Experience of working in multi-company and engineering discipline teams with an ability to communicate effectively.Experience in a technical consulting environment, leading and/or supporting multiple engineering projects & customers.
- Experience and knowledge of applicable classification society rules, standards & regulations used in maritime structure design (e.g., Lloyd’s Register, Eurocode(s), PD5500, ANEP-77, Maritime Acquisition Publication(s), Naval Engineering Standard(s), Defence Standard(s)).
- Experience in a technical consulting environment, leading and/or supporting multiple engineering projects & customers.
- A proven track record of delivering reliability, productivity & quality in a technical consultancy environment.
- A readiness to grow & develop your technical & behavioural competence to operate at the cutting edge of your discipline.
- Experience of whole ship design including assessment of performance, design integration, construction, and through-life maintenance.
