The General Foreman manages multiple crews to complete daily tasks related to the construction and maintenance of underground power lines. This role requires extensive knowledge of underground electrical distribution systems, crew scheduling, storm crew management, and resource coordination. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, ensuring production efficiency, training staff, and maintaining the highest safety standards while overseeing underground utility line teams and interfacing with internal and external departments.
- Obtain all necessary materials and ensure permits and licenses are in place.
- Oversee project work, assuming full responsibility for quality and timeliness.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, applying the higher of MasTec or customer requirements.
- Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections.
- Disseminate safety briefings and verify crew understanding.
- Coordinate and supervise daily crew tasks related to digging and product placement.
- Perform switching procedures to isolate, insulate, splice, and terminate underground power lines safely.
- Connect, disconnect, install, remove, move, and transfer various electrical devices at customer facilities (e.g., transformers, regulator, switches, capacitor banks).
- Drive, haul, and operate equipment to and from job sites to assist crews.
- Train new hires and trainees in the trade.
- Contact utilities at each project site as needed.

The position operates primarily in an office environment, utilizing standard equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and scanners. Physical demands include occasional filing, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, and the ability to bend as needed. The role is primarily sedentary but may require occasional manual labor to support field crews.
- 1+ years of experience with directional drilling.
- Properly phase and mark/tag underground equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment and in general construction.
- 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or obtain within 90 days.
- Preferred: 10+ years of experience with significant supervising and training of skilled labor, and OSHA 20 certification.
