The primary purpose of the role is to fabricate parts for structural fabrication, the Service Center, and miscellaneous steel assemblies according to cutting lists, shop drawings, and Drake‑Williams Steel quality requirements.
Key duties include identifying steel shapes, sizes, and mill tolerances; fabricating beams, tubes, angles, channels, bars, grating, pipe, plate, or round stock to the dimensions shown on cut lists and shop drawings while observing AISC code requirements; adjusting machines for accuracy; spotting and reporting cutting‑list or drawing discrepancies; operating forklifts, jib and overhead cranes, conveyors, and transfers; and completing any other tasks assigned by management. Attendance at required meetings and reliable adherence to scheduled hours are also expected.
Candidates must be able to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations, interpret semi‑complicated verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively with co‑workers and supervisors. Proficiency with measuring tools, computer systems for inventory and cut‑list management, and basic geometry is required, as is the ability to pass a Drake‑Williams Steel test on shop‑drawing interpretation. The role also demands pride in workmanship, attention to detail, safe operation of material‑handling equipment, minor mechanical maintenance, and the ability to multitask.
Physical demands include frequent standing and occasional walking up to 60 feet, continuous lifting of 20 lb weights, frequent lifting of 35 lb weights, and occasional lifting of 60 lb weights using cranes when needed. Employees may need to climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, and reach overhead or forward while handling material, and must possess gross finger dexterity for tool operation. The job requires a 40‑hour work week, with possible overtime or weekend shifts based on company needs.
Safety requirements include hearing awareness, visual ability to read shop drawings, and mandatory use of personal protective equipment such as steel‑toe shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats. Workers may be exposed occasionally to heat, cold, humidity, fumes, dust, solvents, greases, oils, and coolants.
Essential tools include pencils, squares, tape measures, markers, hammers, wire brushes, grinders, sledgehammers, grab hooks, vise grips, Allen wrenches, pry‑bars, C‑clamps, band cutters, and chains. Required machines comprise saws, overhead and jib cranes, pallets, transfers, brakes, blasters, punches, shears, and forklifts.
A minimum of six months’ experience in a steel manufacturing environment is required. Additional details about employee benefits can be found on the company’s benefits page.
The position is located in Omaha, NE (ZIP 68110) and is a full‑time, first‑shift role with a salary range of $19.00 to $30.00 per hour. A $5,000 hiring bonus is offered for qualified candidates.
