The Senior Product Development Engineer leads the technical side of New Product Development (NPD) and New Technology Development (NTD) projects, taking concepts through design, validation, certification and industrialization. Early in each project the engineer defines critical‑to‑quality requirements, collaborates with Technical Title Holders and cross‑functional teams, and seeks business approval to advance phases.
Key duties include creating and maintaining a repository of technical documents (3D models, drawings, guidelines, certified prints), writing the Product Technical Specification, performing design calculations, CFD and FEA analyses, and managing subcontracted engineering work when needed.
The role also coordinates technical meetings with sourcing, manufacturing and advanced engineering, leads design‑review sessions, conducts functional analysis and FMEA, incorporates DF(X) principles, defines design rules, and provides technical training for new products across the organization.
- Maintain a detailed repository of 3D models, 2D drawings, assembly instructions, interchangeability charts and certified prints for each project.
- Write all technical documents required for implementation of new products in selection and calculation software.
- Coordinate technical meetings with sourcing, manufacturing, and advanced manufacturing engineering teams.
- Set up and oversee prototype testing in collaboration with the testing laboratory, then analyze and interpret results.
- Prepare and support invention disclosures to protect company intellectual property.
- Act as a recognized expert for safety and pressure relief valves, participating in industry committees as needed.
- Mentor and guide both new and experienced engineers, sharing lessons learned across the organization.
- Identify project risks early and develop mitigation strategies throughout the development lifecycle.
- Conduct functional analysis and associated Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for new designs.
- Incorporate Design for Excellence (DFX) principles and define design rules to improve processes.
- Manage subcontracted engineering activities when specialized expertise is required.
