Lead and coordinate compliance activities including audits, self-certifications, spot checks, evidence gathering, mitigation, and program validations.
Perform and evaluate electrical studies (short circuit, arc flash, relay operation, real/reactive power, VAR control, protection coordination) using tools such as ETAP, SKM, and SEL software suites.
Serve as the subject matter expert and standard owner for ALLETE Clean Energy’s FERC and NERC compliance program, ensuring the renewable generation fleet remains reliable, audit-ready, and compliant.
Track industry trends, emerging reliability risks, and evolving technical standards to proactively identify impacts to GO/GOP operations.
Integrate technology platforms (SharePoint, document management systems, operational data) into compliance workflows to improve documentation, evidence management, reporting, and quality assurance.
Review, interpret, and communicate new or revised FERC, NERC, and Regional Entity requirements, clarifying applicability to the company’s low-impact renewable fleet and supporting facility personnel with compliance issues.
Provide technical oversight and guidance for substations, protection systems, and electrical equipment supporting wind facilities, including maintenance, repair, and operational activities.

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program required PLUS 15 years or more experience as an engineer*
Four years or more NERC compliance-related experience required, preferably in a Generation Owner / Generation Operator Environment

Strong technical knowledge of power plant operations (particularly renewable facilities), including the interrelationship of registered entity functions, and compliance with operation and maintenance functions.

Compensation Incentive Program
The expected annual compensation range for this position is $91,000 - $114,000 . Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
