Asset Engineer

Description

You will join Southern Water’s Water Asset Management team to help shape long‑term water investment plans and meet regulatory commitments. The role focuses on developing engineering solutions that improve asset performance, reduce risk, and deliver value for customers and the environment.

• Conduct or review root cause analyses to devise solutions for asset performance and risk issues.
• Identify remedial actions ensuring safe, reliable operation and regulatory compliance.
• Perform cost‑benefit analyses to select best‑value interventions and define scope and timelines.
• Develop and assess intervention options for prioritized risks, supporting scheduling and benefits tracking.
• Recommend evidence‑based solutions considering cost, performance, risk and criticality for investment plans.
• Evaluate solution effectiveness and incorporate feedback into future asset strategies.
• Support integrated system planning and hand‑over approved capital interventions while maintaining benefits viability.

Requirements

• Hold a UK driving licence; occasional travel to operational sites may be required.
• Possess a degree in engineering or science (or equivalent water industry experience) and strong IT skills (MS Office, SAP, GIS).
• Demonstrate experience in engineering design, feasibility studies or construction and knowledge of asset planning tools.
• Show clear written and verbal communication and ability to collaborate across teams.
• Desirable: Hold professional accreditation such as IMA or CIWEM.
• Desirable: Experience supervising staff/contractors and applying innovative problem‑solving approaches.
• Desirable: Exhibit commercial awareness and project costing experience.

Benefits

The position of Asset Engineer closes on 31/07/2025. It is a permanent, full‑time role based in Falmer with a hybrid working pattern (two days per week in the office or on site) and a salary of up to £45,000 depending on experience.
