The Handy Person – Utilities – Base (On‑Site) performs a variety of functions to support the plant’s material‑handling needs. Responsibilities include maintaining vehicles and product trucks, operating licensed vehicles, cleaning plant buildings, grounds and equipment, transporting equipment, material, scrap and waste, and documenting inspections, repairs and maintenance.
- Perform a variety of plant functions and maintain vehicles and product trucks to support material handling.
- Maintain over‑the‑road vehicles, tractors, mowers, product trucks, trash buggies, packing carts, toolboxes, rolling platforms and ladders.
- Operate necessary vehicles with required license.
- Clean and collect trash throughout the plant, including buildings, grounds and equipment.
- Transport equipment, material, scrap and waste containers; load/unload materials; document inspections, repairs and maintenance.
- Clean and remove accumulated glass or debris from rolling stock.
- Perform preventive maintenance such as lubricating vehicle components.
- Conduct general refurbishment and safety inspection of material‑handling trucks.
- Paint identification markings on vehicles professionally.
- Retrieve labels from supply or storeroom, maintain label bins, and affix labels to repaired trucks.
- Transport damaged vehicles from production area to service area.
- Transport serviced vehicles to designated locations.
- Modify material‑handling vehicles with approval to support product mix changes.
- Audit tare weights of production trucks as needed.
- Operate, inspect and clean plant vehicles and material‑handling equipment (forklifts, tractors, lawn equipment, mobile cleaners, etc.).
- Perform operator inspection each shift, check fluid levels and components, replenish fuel, and complete daily inspection forms.
- Load, unload and transport scrap, batch and waste containers to landfill; keep scrap covered with tarps and police routes.
- Transport trash, garbage, batch and waste to the dump.
- Clean scrap hoppers, remove them from basement and transport to dump.
- Perform grounds‑keeping duties (glass cutting, hedge/tree trimming, roof/floor drains, tunnels, hoppers, waste sumps, tanks, water ponds, HVAC systems, etc.).
- Clean roadways and walkways (sweeping, hosing, snow/ice removal).
- Perform minor maintenance (painting buildings/equipment, changing blades, lamps, hoses, cylinders, air valves, assembling/disassembling nozzles, manifolds, headers).
- Mix and apply chemicals (e.g., Round‑up, Haybar).
- Move equipment and furniture; assemble new furniture, carts, etc.
- Maintain records, complete paperwork, and track work using an electronic system.
- Work as part of a team or crew on special assignments (fire watch, confined space attendant).
- Participate in and support safety and housekeeping programs.
- Maintain a CDL license for operating over‑the‑road trucks.
- Notify appropriate personnel of equipment or quality problems and take corrective action within scope.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, the ability to pass a drug screen, background check and WorkKeys assessments, and at least one year of manufacturing experience is a plus. Candidates must be able to stand 12 hours a day, work swing shifts, follow written and verbal instructions, and demonstrate strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills. A CDL license is required for operating over‑the‑road trucks.
The hiring process consists of an application review, an on‑site interview, drug screening, background and reference checks, followed by an offer.
- Repair or replace broken or damaged production truck parts (wheels, hangers, fasteners, ticket holders, pins); mechanical and welding skills required.
