Line & Grade Instrument Man II

Description

In this role you will use surveying equipment to accurately layout building locations and dimensions, coordinate with the Party Chief, Superintendent, and foremen, support project management through daily observations, resolve constructability issues, and contribute to the safety culture.

• Maintain accurate site dimensions, controls, and layout of structures throughout the project.
• Establish primary survey points with the client and transfer building control on site.
• Set up, calibrate, and verify surveying equipment using pegging, double centering, or other methods.
• Provide required data to the Party Chief for defining points in the data collector.
• Calculate and monitor daily concrete hold quantities.
• Communicate and coordinate layout activities with the Party Chief, Superintendent, foremen, and trades.
• Review construction documents for accuracy, identify deviations, and submit clarification requests.
• Collaborate to resolve constructability conflicts with project leadership and formwork engineering.
• Maintain field notes, documentation, as‑built drawings, and clarification logs.
• Apply and determine the most stringent construction tolerances for work.
• Follow safety guidelines, wear PPE, attend toolbox talks, and contribute to safety task analysis.
• May serve as Party Chief on smaller projects.

Requirements

• Hold a high school diploma with 4 years of construction experience, or equivalent education and experience.
• Have at least 2 years of experience as a Line & Grade Instrument Man I.
• Demonstrate proficiency in geometry, trigonometry, and calculations of area, volume, and percentages.
• Possess knowledge of industry tolerances and coordinate systems.
• Exhibit strong communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, and ability to direct work.
