The senior project manager is responsible for leading projects to agreed outcomes, meeting time, cost and quality requirements while managing internal fee expectations, risk mitigation and change management. Collaboration with clients, design teams, consultants and contractors ensures successful delivery aligned with expectations.
Key responsibilities include managing programme budgets and risks throughout the lifecycle, ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental legislation and CDM regulations, and providing regular performance updates. The role also covers early‑phase development, optioneering and consenting, design‑stage review for SHESQ and deliverability, and supporting tendering with appropriate contracting strategies.
Further duties involve overseeing design, safety‑by‑design, commissioning, scheme closure and post‑completion activities, acting as the primary interface between internal and external stakeholders, and coordinating contractors and multidisciplinary teams to minimise disruption. The manager will also handle complex third‑party issues, chair progress and cost review meetings, and lead, coach and influence team members.
Within our consult business we combine leading‑edge practical expertise with project delivery consultancy to unlock potential in every project. We are recruiting a senior project manager for a strategic client in the energy sector, supporting a major electricity transmission project.
Required experience includes electrical infrastructure projects, knowledge of relevant legislation, HS&E management systems, environmental control, technical documentation, NEC contract administration, risk management, hand‑over records and formal hazard review processes, as well as procurement for complex projects.
Candidates must hold a degree with at least five years (or an HNC/HND with seven years) of regulated industry experience, be members of a relevant professional institute, and possess recognised health, safety and environmental qualifications such as NEBOSH, SMSTS or IOSH. Mace welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and will consider flexible, part‑time or hybrid working arrangements where suitable.
The role is based in Leeds with travel throughout the UK as required by project sites. It offers the chance to contribute to Mace’s expansion and deliver distinctive value for clients by managing and delivering key projects and programmes.
