The Mill Operator will safely operate hot‑mill equipment to produce quality steel that meets customer specifications. Responsibilities include monitoring and testing mill systems, supporting leadership with safety initiatives, teammate development, housekeeping, quality control, and overall runtime. The role requires effective interaction with teammates in a fast‑paced production environment. Operators must be willing to work rotating shifts and provide both scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
Safety is the top priority at Nucor, and candidates must demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. Minimum qualifications include one year of manufacturing experience or an equivalent background and the ability to travel for training, potentially for extended periods before and after commissioning. Candidates must also be prepared to work rotating shifts and overtime as needed.
Preferred qualifications include at least one year of experience in steel or industrial metal manufacturing, a proven track record in monitoring product quality, and knowledge of electrical and mechanical maintenance. Prior construction or project experience and specific sheet‑mill experience are also valued. These additional skills enhance the ability to contribute effectively to the mill’s operations.
