

Builds and modernizes NYC public school facilities via design, construction and renovation.
Key duties involve comprehensive claims management and investigation, including timely coverage analysis, gathering statements from staff, contractors, claimants, witnesses, brokers, TPAs, medical providers, and technical experts, verifying proper claim coding, and applying severity protocols for referral. The manager maintains a diary system, updates claim files, evaluates liability and damages, and establishes indemnity, expense, and settlement reserves before negotiating resolutions within delegated authority.
In TPA and litigation management, the manager helps develop claims handling instructions, works with brokers, carriers, and adjusters, creates litigation plans, monitors legal expenses, and may attend depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, acting as a technical resource while adhering to professional guidelines and state laws.
The role leverages the Risk Management Information System (RMIS) to track incidents, ensure accurate data coding, and produce dashboards, analytics, and reports that inform risk‑mitigation strategies. Coordination with internal stakeholders, the Office of Inspector General, safety and construction units, and the Labor Law Compliance Unit enhances fraud detection, contractor claim resolution, and workplace safety, while also providing training on procurement policies and procedures.
Preferred qualifications include CPCU, ARM, CRIS, or similar designations, familiarity with the Northeast construction industry and New York State labor and construction laws, strong written and verbal communication, problem‑solving and negotiation skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office and insurance‑specific RMIS tools, and the ability to interpret contracts and insurance documents. Minimum qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five years of experience in insurance or risk management focusing on complex construction claims, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
