Carpenter General Foreman

Description

The Carpenter General Foreman directs daily civil construction operations, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to specification. This role involves supervising crews, managing resources, and acting as a liaison between project managers, subcontractors, and the on‑site team.

Key duties include coordinating foremen, scheduling equipment and materials, maintaining safety standards, and tracking labor and equipment productivity. The foreman also provides coaching, enforces regulations, and oversees quality and permit processes.

• Supervise civil construction crews (earthworks, concrete, drainage, storm water, structural)
• Direct foremen and leadmen, ensuring optimal resource use and regulatory compliance
• Provide formal coaching and feedback to foremen
• Schedule equipment, materials, and tools to maximize production and control costs
• Develop and implement standardized work plans and support process improvements
• Ensure safe working conditions and enforce discipline‑specific safety procedures
• Enforce company, jobsite, federal, and state safety regulations and address concerns
• Account for project construction activities and communicate expectations to subcontractors and vendors
• Track labor and equipment production against estimates
• Report cost overruns and resource utilization to the Civil Superintendent
• Mentor foremen on production costs, scope, quality, and safety
• Maintain and update crew and equipment matrices
• Hold crew members and foremen accountable to company and project rules
• Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and best practices
• Conduct weekly and quarterly safety and quality audits
• Apply advanced knowledge of quality control during checkout processes
• Obtain and manage permits required for work execution

Requirements

The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lb, work in varied weather and terrain, and operate office and field equipment. Strong communication, leadership, decision‑making, and detail‑orientation are essential, along with basic math and documentation skills.
