- Conduct thorough on-site inspections to assess damage, failures, or defects.
- Manage and oversee projects, ensuring deadlines and budget constraints are met.
- Support expert witness projects, as needed. Prepare and participate in depositions, as required.
- Apply engineering first principles and analytical methods to determine root causes of building envelope problems, including the root causes of air infiltration, water infiltration, condensation, thermal radiation, and solar radiation.
- Collect and analyze data related to environmental, material fabrication, and construction practices.
- Mentor and coach peers, staff, and third parties.
- Stay abreast of advancements in building envelope systems, energy codes, materials science, and forensic analysis.
- Explore markets in an area of your expertise and assist in business development activities toward meeting new technical peers and potential clients.
- Proactively participate in professional development and thought leadership activities.
- Develop recommendations for the repair or retrofit of envelope structural components based on forensic findings.
- Prepare detailed engineering reports documenting observations, analyses, findings, and recommendations as the lead or as part of a team when needed.

- Business Development: Experience with client engagement and presenting technical issues to Clients. Experience assisting with proposal writing.
- Experience with terra cotta, brick, or stone masonry systems – or Experience with a variety of window wall, curtainwall, skylight, and storefront systems. Experience with both is an asset.
- Position may require some work to be completed in a field or laboratory environment, including work from heights or in confined spaces.
- Certifications (For NY candidates only): Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI) designation from New York City Department of Buildings or ability to obtain QEWI within 6 months of start. Experience with NYC Local Law 11 Facade Inspection Safety Program.
- Up to 20% travel may be required at times for this position.
- Enjoy up to 30% of the time in the field on assessments of building envelopes or structural system existing conditions.
- Certifications (For IL candidates only): City of Chicago scaffold safety training certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of start.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Structural Engineering required; an Advanced degree (MS / PhD) is an asset.
- Analytical Skills: Strong background in first principles of structural engineering and mechanics. Proficient with engineering tools for structural evaluation and analysis.
- Licensure: Professional licensure is a requirement, either Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of New York or Structural Engineer (SE) in the State of Illinois (or the ability to attain one within six months of hire), with both licenses an asset.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. (Be willing to provide examples within the interview process)
- Project Management: Experience managing budgets and schedules, and leading projects.
- Experience: 5-10+ years of project experience in building envelope design, repair, and investigation.
