The Accounting Clerk performs calculations, verifies and posts financial data, and maintains accounting records of financial transactions. They also prepare reports, correspondence, and assist in conducting inventory.
The role requires utilizing and maintaining working knowledge of applicable accounting methods and procedures consistent with GAAP and company policies while performing duties and maintaining documents and records.
Key duties include verifying and posting business transactions such as checks, purchase orders, accounts payable, and other expenditures or receipts to the appropriate accounts, and completing weekly/monthly documentation and reporting in a timely manner.
The clerk assists with preparing accounts payable packages, accruals, check requests, petty cash reimbursements, and bank reconciliations accurately and in accordance with policy and procedures.
They process various transactions for inmate/resident accounts, including deposits, withdrawals, charges/fees, release or transfer of funds, following policy and procedures.
Additional responsibilities involve assisting with inventory and preparing reports for commissary and other operational endeavors, as well as preparing and maintaining standard operating records and reports required by management, partnership agencies, or government regulations.
The position requires accurate input and editing of numeric and alphanumeric data into checks, statements, reports and other records, producing finished documents efficiently using software applications, and copying, compiling and distributing as necessary.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, two years of experience in business, accounting or a related field (or equivalent education), working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel or other spreadsheet/accounting software, a valid driver’s license, and being at least 18 years old.
