The Sr. Relay Technician is responsible for performing and supervising electrical testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of relays in power stations, utilizing relay test equipment and tools to evaluate various relay types within electrical substations.
- Lead safety briefings, identify and mitigate hazards using Human Performance Error Elimination tools.
- Analyze protection schemes and event records for power circuits.
- Install, commission, and function‑test substation control circuits, transformers, and circuit breaker change‑outs.
- Develop project execution, commissioning, outage sequence, and energization procedures.
- Manage large‑scale, complex projects and act as on‑site lead, assigning tasks and prioritizing activities.
- Train and qualify Relay Technicians I/II and Relay Engineers I.
- Perform end‑to‑end relay testing with software, analyze fault‑type operations, and calibrate both electromechanical and microprocessor relays.
- Conduct root‑cause investigations of electrical issues.
- Review and interpret protection/control schematics, identifying design errors against standards.
- Produce deliverables such as as‑built drawings and test results meeting customer requirements.
- Interact with customers to determine requirements and ensure compliance.

Candidates must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen and criminal background check, hold a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record, and be willing to work overtime and travel as required. Physical requirements include the ability to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 70 lb. - Troubleshoot distribution and transmission control circuits; knowledgeable in relay test software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, or similar equipment.
- Bachelor’s/associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, military experience, or a 4‑year engineering degree (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years relevant industry experience; NETA III/IV certification preferred.
- Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, and lift up to 70 lb.
