Key responsibilities include performing system scoping, screening, and aging‑management reviews for SLR applications in line with NEI 17‑01, collaborating with engineering and regulatory teams to ensure NRC compliance, and producing engineering program basis documentation with rigorous data validation and configuration control. The role also requires road‑mapping inspections to satisfy renewal commitments, reviewing work orders for compliance, acting as a technical expert with clients and the NRC, and maintaining awareness of evolving aging‑management regulations and techniques. A culture of continuous improvement, technology advancement, and cross‑functional collaboration is emphasized, and the position follows a hybrid schedule with three on‑site days per week.
Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced License Renewal (LR) and Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) engineer to support license extensions and post‑approval implementation activities across the U.S. nuclear power plant fleet. The ideal candidate will have a background in LR/SLR application or implementation, nuclear engineering programs, power‑plant work management, NRC submittals, and NRC inspections.
Typical LR/SLR application activities include system scoping, screening, aging‑management reviews, Time‑Limited Aging Analyses, further evaluations, operating‑experience reviews, and modification‑history reviews as defined in NEI 95‑10 and NEI 17‑01. Implementation tasks encompass procedure changes, development of preventative‑maintenance bases and frequencies, work‑order creation and review, online and outage work scheduling, nuclear program basis documentation, NRC commitment closure, and experience with NRC Inspection Procedure 71003.
Preferred expertise spans several aging‑management disciplines. Mechanical programs cover ASME Section XI inspections, water chemistry, BWR and PWR vessel internals, flow‑accelerated corrosion, bolting integrity, steam generators, and numerous component‑specific monitoring activities. Electrical programs focus on insulation for cables and connections not subject to 10 CFR 50.49, metal‑enclosed buses, fuse holders, and high‑voltage insulators. Structural programs include ASME Section XI IWE/IWF/IWL, masonry walls, water‑control structures, and protective‑coating monitoring.
Candidates must hold a BS or MS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program, with coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer, and bring at least five years of experience in engineering, licensing, program, design, power‑plant inspection, or a highly regulated industry. Proven ability to produce accurate technical documentation, familiarity with engineering documentation systems, nuclear QA/QC protocols, and configuration management, as well as strong systems‑thinking skills, are required. Preferred experience includes nuclear plant operations or design, knowledge of NRC/INPO/DOE regulations, prior involvement in license renewal or aging‑management programs, and familiarity with NUREG and NEI standards.
Sargent & Lundy offers award‑winning benefits that support health, wellness, financial security, and work‑life balance, including comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, life and accident insurance, disability coverage, an employee assistance program, backup daycare, flexible spending accounts, 401(k), commuter benefits, tuition assistance, licensure and referral bonuses, generous paid time off, parental and bereavement leave, and flexible work arrangements.
The compensation range for this position is $82,380 – $125,860, with a transparent pay structure that includes a base salary, comprehensive benefits, and eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus, reflecting the company's commitment to rewarding performance and employee well‑being.
