The Acoustical Consultant will serve as the primary acoustical specialist on a range of national and regional projects, including classrooms, lecture halls, healthcare facilities, courthouses, conference centers, resorts, theatres, media production facilities, and broadcast studios. The role involves developing, presenting, and managing solutions for room acoustics, sound isolation, mechanical system noise and vibration control, and environmental acoustics, while creating drawings, reports, acoustic models, and performing on‑site testing.
- Contribute creatively and collaboratively to the project design team using evidence‑based architectural acoustics.
- Collaborate with architectural team members and clients.
- Develop high‑quality acoustics reports, sketches, drawings, cost analyses, and specification documents.
- Analyze acoustic solutions with computer modeling software.
- Review submittals and shop drawings.
- Perform on‑site acoustics testing and noise surveys.
- Inspect implementation of acoustical solutions on site.
- Coordinate business development activities with principals and marketing staff, including sales meetings and proposals.
- Attend project meetings and site visits while conducting acoustic testing.
- Ensure all work is completed on‑time, within budget, and meets NV5’s quality standards.
- Maintain a strong appetite for technical exploration and professional development.

This position is U.S.-based and offers a work‑from‑home arrangement, with openness to candidates located in major U.S. markets beyond those explicitly listed.
- Possess 5‑10 years of experience as a consultant in architectural acoustics.
- Hold a bachelor's degree in acoustics, audio/music engineering, mechanical or architectural engineering, physics, or a related field; master’s preferred.
- INCE Board Certification preferred.
- Demonstrate expertise in room acoustics, sound isolation, mechanical system noise and vibration control, and environmental acoustics.
- Exhibit excellent attention to detail and outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Work effectively as an individual contributor or team member.
- Maintain a professional, positive attitude in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments.
- Business development experience in professional services, especially acoustics, is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with Revit/BIM, AutoCAD, BlueBeam, Sketch‑Up, Ease, and CadnaA is desirable.
- LEED certification is desirable.
- Able to satisfy end‑user needs, deliver high‑caliber results independently, and travel occasionally, including overnight and off‑hours testing.
Benefits
The advertised salary range for this California role is $90,000‑$125,000 per year, with the final offer adjusted for experience and expertise. Compensation may also include restricted stock units and a full suite of medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, 401(k), and professional development benefits.
