This individual shall evaluate building types through modeling software or engineering calculations to determine optimal systems and energy‑efficiency measures. The position develops comprehensive analysis reports detailing optimal energy‑conservation measures. They create sustainability studies assessing water, energy and carbon consumption using proven engineering techniques. The role also prepares and processes utility incentive applications and manages the application process.
This position has no direct supervisory responsibility, but serves as a resource for entry‑ and mid‑level energy engineers.
- Perform energy modeling and analysis for building systems including HVAC, DHW, renewables, lighting and plug loads.
- Calculate HVAC heating and cooling loads for existing and new buildings.
- Conduct life‑cycle cost analysis for building systems and related design calculations.
- Analyze project plans, specifications and visit sites to identify mechanical, electrical, control systems and facility operational characteristics.
- Evaluate building information to determine the most energy‑efficient design concepts.
- Validate energy performance for both existing and new mechanical systems, specify components, identify design problems and create optimal solutions.
- Prepare energy study reports for utility incentives, system comparisons, LCCA’s and LEED certification.
- Determine eligibility of utility rebates for projects according to Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), Delmarva, and Pepco programs in Maryland and Washington, DC.
- Generate utility rebate applications for prescriptive and custom building systems, including lighting, electrical, mechanical and associated controls.
- Complete cost estimates and coordinate with electrical, plumbing, architecture and other consultants.
- Work with manufacturers to select equipment that meets specified energy efficiency, capacity and budget requirements.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and relevant contacts, staying aware of industry trends.
- Handle a large and diverse number of projects simultaneously and effectively.
- Create and develop internal training resources for the team.
- Act as point of contact for Energy Engineer questions and internal training, especially on complex projects; assist with issue resolution and lessons learned.
- Assist in developing best practices and procedures to continuously improve internal processes.
- Develop and deliver customer presentations related to energy efficiency.
