The Site Functional Area Manager (SFAM) is responsible for day‑to‑day plant‑level environmental compliance, ensuring the highest level of adherence to all applicable rules and regulations. The role oversees regulatory inspections, reporting, permit compliance, and testing across air and water pollution control, waste handling, spill planning, tank management, and emergency response. It also promotes environmental awareness and assists plant management in assessing environmental risks while collaborating with Environmental Programs to implement regulatory changes.
The SFAM manages environmental programs such as waste management, water pollution control, spill response, emergency planning, and tank management while balancing competing priorities. Duties include detailed record keeping, data analysis, report preparation, agency notifications, and permit review. The manager alerts staff to environmental issues, leads self‑assessments, corporate audits, and regulatory site inspections, and oversees contractors and budget allocations. Participation in ISO 14001 EMS certification, metric reporting, corrective‑action implementation, and peer‑group best‑practice sharing are also key responsibilities.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, natural or physical sciences, or environmental science with at least five years of relevant experience, or an associate’s degree with seven years, or a high school diploma/GED with nine years. They must meet required site access and medical clearance standards and possess strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Preferred experience includes air‑quality expertise and familiarity with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), water‑quality sampling and discharge monitoring report preparation, and broader environmental regulatory knowledge for power plants. Project management skills, experience with ISO 14001 EMS, and a solid understanding of environmental management systems are also valued.
