The Utility Locator will locate underground utilities for clients and property owners based on 811 tickets in compliance with dig laws. This involves using utility maps, as‑built civil engineering drawings, GIS data, and various pipe and electronic locating equipment, and marking locations with flags or paint. The locator prepares reports, forms, memos, takes photos, and documents any damage to utilities, and uses a cell‑phone app to record locating marks, photos, and complete required documentation. An on‑call rotation is also part of the role.
Candidates must have at least two years of locating experience and be familiar with best locating practices, 811 law, and interpreting utility maps and drawings. They must maintain clean, tobacco‑free vehicles and equipment, follow written and oral instructions, complete paperwork, and communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public. The role requires attention to detail, ability to work in all weather conditions, willingness to travel over 75% of the time, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to pass a drug screen. A valid driver’s license, ability to obtain a DOT physical, and flexibility for varying schedules and overtime are required, along with regular attendance and punctuality.
Northern Lights Locating and Inspection Inc. is seeking Utility Locators on a full‑time employee basis. The role offers competitive pay, great benefits, and a paid time‑off program. Locators are given independence to run their area while a support system is available. Applicants are invited to join the Northern Lights team.
The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, quick‑learning, team‑oriented, and safety‑focused with exemplary character. Northern Lights offers competitive pay, paid holidays and vacation time, affordable benefits including medical, dental, vision, short‑ and long‑term disability, life insurance, and a 401(k) plan with matching contributions.
