In this role you will deploy to disaster sites to support FEMA or other government entities in delivering disaster recovery programs such as the Public Assistance program or the FEMA Individual Assistance Direct Housing program. Construction Inspectors assist in preparing grant applications for restoring damaged public infrastructure, conduct site assessments, document damage, develop scopes of work, and formulate detailed cost estimates, while also supporting hazard mitigation planning. When supporting Direct Housing missions, you may assess and document temporary housing options or monitor construction, installation, and maintenance activities at temporary housing locations.

Dewberry maintains a cadre of skilled professional and technical staff in an on‑call capacity to support disaster recovery operations across the United States. We are currently searching for highly qualified Construction Inspectors to support these projects.
Applicants must have a high school diploma and at least five years of full‑time construction inspection experience on major infrastructure facilities, such as transportation, building, or utility projects. Knowledge of modern construction practices, the International Building Code, ADA, and other regulatory compliance is required, along with excellent oral and written communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Candidates must be able to work independently and as part of a team under stressful conditions, up to 12 hours per day, seven days a week for up to 12 months, and possess a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and U.S. citizenship for a Public Trust clearance.
A bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field is preferred, as are professional registrations such as EIT, PE, NECEPT, NICET, or ACI. Familiarity with FEMA PA program law, regulations, policy, and the Grants Portal, as well as prior FEMA PA experience in roles like Program Delivery Manager or Cost Estimator, is advantageous. Experience with site development, cost estimating software such as RS Means or Xactimate, and utility construction further strengthens an application.
