Associate Estimator (Infrastructure Construction Consultancy)

Description

The Associate Estimator will lead best‑practice estimation for large, complex infrastructure projects in sectors such as Energy, Water, Transportation and Defence. Responsibilities span feasibility through construction estimates, integrating cost, carbon, risk intelligence and commercial assurance, while presenting findings to clients and contractors.

• Develop best-in-class estimates and align them with cost, carbon and risk intelligence.
• Lead quantum assessments, optioneering/value-engineering and rate-building based on market data.
• Create budgets, baselines, forecasts and improve estimation processes and governance.
• Interface with project cost, commercial and control teams; manage stakeholder expectations.
• Produce clear estimation reports, benchmarks, assumptions and present recommendations to clients and supply chains.
• Mentor junior staff and upskill internal and external stakeholders on cost and commercial assurance.

Requirements

The role is based in one of AECOM’s UK regional offices with a hybrid work model, requiring flexibility to travel across the UK and abroad and to adapt quickly to client needs, including remote work and frequent site visits.

• Demonstrated experience delivering estimation and commercial excellence across energy, water, transport or defence sectors.
• Strong verbal and written communication, report writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to work autonomously in fast-paced environments and adapt to changing challenges.
• Proven interpersonal skills for engaging senior and varied stakeholders.
• Experience within integrated multi-organisation estimation teams and commercial delivery processes.
• Knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts; professional qualification in project management, engineering, construction or quantity surveying.
• Desired chartered status (ICE, RICS, CIOB) and ability to obtain required security clearance.
