The Rodman is a key member of a survey crew, providing essential support to ensure successful completion of land surveying projects under the direction of the Party Chief. This role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
Rodmen clear brush and obstacles to maintain line of sight, and they carry, set up, and maintain survey equipment such as rods, tripods, and prisms for staking and measurement. They load and unload equipment and supplies, maintain inventory of nails, paint, rods, and flags, and perform tasks like gathering supplies, digging for corners, and cutting lines. Additional duties include locating and identifying monuments, plumbing prisms, measuring distances, cleaning equipment, and other field surveying tasks as assigned.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and be able to grasp basic surveying concepts. Strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to follow directions, and teamwork are essential. The job requires physical ability to lift up to 35 lb equipment and to work outdoors for extended periods, with demonstrated dependability and reliability.
