Key duties include performing evacuations of parallel racks after pressure tests, wiring and programming EMS systems for various manufacturers, fully starting up new parallel and individual refrigeration systems, leading small projects such as case and condenser change‑outs, and supporting EO projects like retro‑commissioning, EMS upgrades, leak detection upgrades, and gas conversion projects. The role also involves collaborating with Service and Construction Managers, providing training to junior technicians and foremen, and assisting in problematic stores as needed.
We are looking for a Refrigeration Start-up Technician who will handle start-up and Energy Optimization of supermarket refrigeration, heating, and ventilation equipment, ensuring customer needs are met efficiently, accurately, and on time. The ideal candidate should be proficient in advanced solid‑state controls, oil system safety controls, mechanical sub‑cooling, head pressure controls for energy reduction, energy management systems (EMS), refrigeration rack oil systems, advanced de‑frost diagnosis, and both single and parallel compressor system start‑up in a supermarket environment.
The technician must possess Journeyman‑level construction experience, including installation of refrigeration systems with electrical, plumbing, and fixture work, and will act as the subject matter expert for Energy Optimization processes, procedures, and projects.
Qualifications required are expert knowledge of refrigeration, ice machines, electrical systems, single and parallel rack systems, display cases, walk‑ins, and EMS wiring/programming (CPC, Novar, Danfoss), strong mechanical aptitude, good communication skills, the ability to read blueprints for refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing, and effective multitasking. Candidates must have a clean driving record, be willing to travel overnight and work overtime, possess a high school diploma or GED, technical trade school coursework, 3+ years of supermarket EMS experience (EMS certification preferred), and 5–7 years in commercial refrigeration, particularly with parallel rack systems.
