Director of Development Engineering

They are seeking a Director of Development Engineering to join their team in Boston. In this role, you will lead the early-stage development of major energy infrastructure projects, overseeing technical design, permitting, and coordination between engineering teams, EPCs, and stakeholders. You will evaluate bids, guide contractors, and support project feasibility and risk assessments, ensuring projects are executed with precision and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring 6+ years of experience in combined-cycle, carbon capture, or hydrogen projects, along with a strong engineering or physics background. This role requires a blend of technical design expertise, construction understanding, and commercial awareness to guide projects from concept through execution.

• Skilled at managing external contractors, consultants, and multi-disciplinary engineering teams
• 6+ years of experience in combined-cycle natural gas, carbon capture, or hydrogen project development
• Strong understanding of EPC processes, contract negotiation, and bid evaluation
• Strong construction knowledge and familiarity with balance of plant systems and site engineering
• Ability to read, review, and develop plan sets, technical drawings, and engineering documentation
• Proficiency with GIS tools for site selection, routing, and spatial analysis
• Experience managing interconnection applications and coordinating with utilities and ISOs
• Knowledge of permitting processes for large energy infrastructure projects (air, environmental, and siting)
• Proven ability to lead early-stage project development from concept through permitting and design
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for cross-functional and stakeholder engagement
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics (Master’s preferred)

Salary Range: $160,000 – $200,000
