Auckland Council governs and manages Auckland's local services, facilities, and community needs.
Join Auckland Council Libraries as our Research and Heritage Programming Lead and bring the taonga and stories of our collections to life. You’ll lead the development of inclusive, audience‑focused programmes that showcase our research and heritage collections and connect Tāmaki Makaurau’s communities with their past, present and future. This is an exciting opportunity to shape innovative programming that celebrates the richness and diversity of Auckland.
This role plays a key part in growing awareness of and engagement with our research and heritage collections, helping Aucklanders see themselves reflected in our shared stories. By developing intentional partnerships and impactful public programming, you’ll contribute to Auckland Council’s vision of building strong, connected communities that value te ao Māori and our collective heritage.
You are an experienced public programming lead or engagement specialist who can take programmes from concept to delivery, evaluate their impact, and apply insights to enhance future offerings. With strong communication and project‑management skills you turn strategic goals into creative, audience‑centred experiences, thrive on collaboration, and build partnerships. A background in the GLAM sector and a grounding in te ao Māori, or a willingness to learn, will set you apart.
At Auckland Council you will join a dynamic, supportive environment where your work directly impacts the lives of over 1.7 million Aucklanders, with flexible working conditions and a focus on well‑being. We are recognised for our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, accredited by GenderTick and a signatory of the Pride Pledge, creating a workplace where staff feel valued and empowered. As part of the Auckland Council Group you also receive a range of benefits and discounts, including additional leave options, attraction discounts, insurance policies, a flexible environment, and KiwiSaver contributions.
The position is graded at Band G with a salary range of $88,528 to $104,150, dependent on skills and experience, and applications close on Sunday 25 January 2026 at 11.59 pm. Auckland Council is an equal‑opportunity employer and encourages applicants with support or access requirements to advise us during the application process.
