- Examine plans and specifications for compliance with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, energy conservation (Title 24), green building, accessibility, and egress codes.
- Coordinate plan review with public agencies, itemize required corrections, and explain them to permit applicants.
- Authorize issuance of building permits for compliant plans and calculate associated fees.
- Advise engineers, architects, contractors, builders, and the public on interpretation and application of building regulations, state laws, and local ordinances.

- Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or a related field.
- At least three years of experience in architectural or building plan review, or equivalent training and experience.
- Hold ICC Plans Examiner Certification (minimum Residential Plan Review Certificate).
- Hold ICC Licensed Master Code Professional status with ICC Commercial Plans Reviewer Certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of building codes.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
