The Line Technician Learner role is the entry‑craft level in the line‑tech hierarchy. Learners assist higher‑level technicians with substation construction and maintenance while developing intermediate skills and increasing independence.
Key duties include adhering to company safety practices and human performance tools, understanding line‑equipment isolation and grounding, and communicating effectively in writing and verbally. Learners must read electrical schematics, perform basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, think methodically, and gain exposure to transmission and distribution system switching. Operating bucket trucks, digger derrick trucks, and other aerial devices is also required.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and be willing to learn. Physical abilities include lifting and carrying up to 75 lb, standing 5–6 hours, sitting 2–3 hours, climbing, bending, and distinguishing colors.
Preferred qualifications include a commitment to continuous improvement, strong oral and written communication skills, and proficiency with standard software such as word processing, email, and spreadsheets.
The position is based on‑site in North or South Carolina and may require after‑hours work. Employees work in a diverse environment and must be capable of performing tasks on elevated work surfaces.
Applicants will complete an online Modern Hire Virtual Assessment for Lineworkers and a Physical Abilities Test. Within one year of hire, a valid Class A commercial driver’s license must be obtained, along with a DOT physical and respirator clearance.
