The primary duties involve preparing engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and designs for high‑voltage transmission lines under senior supervision. This role supports the technical delivery of transmission projects throughout all project phases.
- Work under the direction of Project Manager(s) and Project Engineer(s).
- Conduct analyses to develop design options, perform modeling and/or calculations, and prepare design sketches and concept drawings.
- Collaborate with Designers and CAD Technicians to develop construction drawings that comply with national design standards, safety codes, and project specifications.
- Assist with preparing cost estimates or specifications.
- Participate in field reviews or construction observation.
- Design and analyze structural performance of high‑voltage transmission structures, including concrete, steel, and wood pole structures and their foundations.
- Perform typical design tasks such as structure design, spotting, conductor sag and blowout calculations, foundation design, hardware selection and fit‑up, and develop bill of materials while considering environmental permitting, right‑of‑way acquisition, public involvement, access roads, and construction requirements.

- Proficiency with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD; experience with civil engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation, Autodesk Infraworks, Civil 3D, or specialty civil platforms (e.g., Openflows).
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate (candidates without EIT will be hired as Transmission Design Coordinator and expected to obtain EIT for career progression).
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated attitude and commitment to actively participating in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
