Safety Manager - DC/VA/MD
Kiewit
One of North America’s largest construction and engineering firms delivering complex infrastructure and industrial projects.
Oversee safety protocols and implement safety training programs for vertical commercial and federal facility projects in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia region.
Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies.
Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.
Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to vertical commercial and federal facility projects.
Analyze root causes of incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization.
Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents.
Ensure that safety protocols are aligned with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Kiewit's safety standards.
Coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.
Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to building construction and all MEP scopes.
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance on projects.
Provide guidance on safety-related certifications and qualifications required for specific job roles.
Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.
Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors.

CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications are preferred.
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Professional certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CHST, EM385) preferred.
Regular, reliable attendance
Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
Work productively and meet deadlines timely
In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity, communicating effectively to all levels of stakeholders and workers.
Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field plus 5 years experience in EHS/construction safety management or if no degree, minimum of 9 years exerience in construction safety management, performing functions as outlined above. Prefer experience with Vertical and Federal Projects and experience in Safety leadership roles as the General Contractor.
