The role of Maintenance Fitter involves keeping plant machinery operating smoothly within a high‑performance operation. The successful candidate will carry out maintenance and repairs according to operational plans, enhance equipment reliability and help reduce costs. Responsibilities also include lifting, rigging, crane and hoist work where trained, as well as maintaining pumping, compressed‑air and pneumatic systems.
Additional duties cover troubleshooting and repairing bulk‑storage and material‑handling equipment such as silos, vessels, hoppers and transport systems. The fitter will perform mechanical repairs, diagnose faults, conduct inspections, adjustments and calibrations, and work from written instructions, drawings and plans. Knowledge of hydraulic/pneumatic systems, welding and fabrication, and general bench fitting of components such as gears, couplings and control valves is also required.
Candidates should have a proactive, hands‑on attitude and possess relevant qualifications such as City & Guilds Electrical or Mechanical Engineering certifications, NVQ/BTEC Level 3, 17th Edition IEE Regulations, and MMA/MIG welding training. Experience as an electrician or mechanic and the ability to read system drawings are advantageous, though not all criteria need to be met.
The position offers a salary of £40,000, is based at the Camden British rail freight depot and follows a 42‑hour work week.
