
Perform a wide range of work to his/her skill level. e.g., lamping, unblocking toilets, minor painting, assisting trade staff on PPM duties, fault-finding on non-complex equipment and assisting in electrical/plumbing/building installation work
Unblock macerators, toilets, urinals, and sinks etc. Repair internal and external drainage systems. Using Personnel Protective Equipment to prevent exposure to un-contained body fluids
Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings, and specifications appropriate to his/her skill level, without supervision
Use all relevant tools and equipment as appropriate to his/her skill level
Assist in the moving of heavy loads, plant, equipment, and furniture as required
Work as part of a shift team on a 4 on 4 off basis
Working as part of a shift team, Maintenance Assistants will carry out fault finding, repairs, and other tasks within their skill set. Supervisors and managers will support and offer guidance and instruction for more complex faults.
Clean/tidy/dispose of waste from all workshops, plantrooms and communal areas
Previous appropriate working experience or training, in skills development, including the safe use of tools and equipment
Able to record information accurately e.g., log sheets, list of material requirements
Understand fully the inter-relationship between various maintenance crafts
Experience in a building maintenance or industrial environment
This role includes a DBS Standard check therefore ability to pass is essential.
Requirement to learn new techniques with training, as necessary. This may include for example Procedures for releasing trapped persons in lifts and Statutory requirements for ladder inspections
Ability to use hand tools, associated trade tools, equipment and machinery for maintenance, repair, and minor improvement/new work to required standard
Working towards a formal qualification in a relevant discipline

Equans is looking for a Shift Maintenance Assistant to join our team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. This is a permanent, full-time role, working 39.375 hours per week. This is based on a shift pattern of four days on, four days off, made up of working two days 0700 - 1900 and two nights 1900 - 0700.
