Key responsibilities include complying with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws; completing pre‑ and post‑trip vehicle inspections and Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports; and promptly reporting unsafe situations, incidents, or service interruptions to the Operations Manager or Dispatch. Drivers attend required training, work with managers to improve route efficiency, communicate customer requests, dump receptacles cleanly, and finalize end‑of‑day documentation while assisting fellow drivers as needed.
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks equipped with front, side, or rear‑end lift attachments, transporting waste or recyclable containers that can exceed 1,000 pounds. Depending on the line of business, drivers work as commercial, residential, or roll‑off operators, navigating high‑traffic roads, driveways, alleys, and tight industrial routes, and must perform skilled backing maneuvers.
Applicants must hold a valid CDL Class A or B with an air‑brake endorsement, have at least one year of relevant driving experience (or recent military driving), be at least 18 years old, and be legally eligible to work in the country. A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
A WM job offers more than a paycheck; it creates opportunities for you and your family. The company emphasizes stability, with teams home every night, and commits to growth through an annual Education Assistance Benefit. Employees also enjoy comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, vision, 401(k) match, stock options, dependent daycare, and more.
The role demands physical abilities such as standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, handling, sitting, talking, and hearing. WM provides a competitive total compensation package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, a stock purchase plan, 401(k) match, paid vacation, holidays, and personal days, though benefits may vary by site.
