The Associate Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) leads safety and compliance programs across manufacturing operations. This role drives continuous improvement, ensures regulatory compliance with OSHA, ISO 45001, EPA, and other standards, and strengthens a proactive safety culture.

The position partners with plant leadership to reduce risks, improve performance, and engage employees in sustainable safety practices.

  • Implement and maintain Safety Management Systems (SMS) to standardize hazard assessments and control measures.
  • Manage contractor qualification and safety performance programs.
  • Maintain and communicate safety policies that meet OSHA, EPA, DOT, and ISO 45001 requirements.
  • Conduct site audits and inspections, ensuring timely corrective action and compliance.
  • Lead investigations of serious incidents and near misses.
  • Oversee root cause analysis and ensure preventive actions are completed.
  • Influence companywide safety strategy and culture.
  • Coordinate with local agencies for preparedness and crisis response.
  • Track EHS KPIs and report performance trends to senior leadership.
  • Lead EHS excellence across advanced manufacturing operations.
  • Coach and mentor Safety Managers and Supervisors to enhance leadership capability.
  • Verify compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Walk, stand, and climb during site inspections.
  • Oversee development and testing of emergency response programs across facilities.
  • Recommend process improvements to reduce risk and improve safety outcomes.
  • Prepare facilities for external audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Promote ongoing education in EHS principles and best practices.
  • Foster employee participation through recognition programs and open communication.
  • Promote a strong, proactive safety culture.
  • Integrate EHS principles into operational planning and decision-making.
  • Develop and execute manufacturing safety strategies aligned with company and regulatory standards.

  • Preferred certifications: CSP, ASP, CHST, or ISO 45001 Lead Auditor.
  • Expertise in OSHA 29 CFR 1910, NFPA, RCRA, and industrial hygiene practices.
  • Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Combination of office and plant environments with regular production floor visits.
  • Exposure to typical manufacturing conditions including noise and moving machinery.
  • Proven leadership in multi-site safety management and continuous improvement.
  • Travel 25–40% for audits, inspections, and training.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. and navigate confined or elevated spaces.
  • Associate degree with 10+ years, bachelor’s with 8+ years, or master’s with 6+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing.
