Safety Specialist

Description

The Safety Specialist supports the Director of Safety and is responsible for delivering training to field employees, helping to maintain a safe work environment across job sites.

In this role, the specialist oversees safety compliance, conducts inspections, evaluates work practices, and collaborates with supervisors and personnel to mitigate hazards and ensure adherence to OSHA and company standards.

• Perform comprehensive jobsite inspections of tools, safety documentation, equipment, and machinery to identify hazards and ensure OSHA, company, and Owner/GC compliance.
• Assist supervisors by evaluating work practices and recommending improvements for a safe environment.
• Identify hazardous situations, develop jobsite safety procedures, and provide necessary information and resources to field personnel.
• Implement consistent safety procedures across operations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and company regulations.
• Participate in industry organizations and attend relevant safety seminars.
• Investigate and document safety violations or unsafe conditions, enforce corrective actions, and verify implementation.
• Complete accident and near‑miss reporting and investigations.
• Accompany injured employees for treatment and support the Safety Director in managing work‑related injuries.
• Deliver on‑the‑spot trainings and weekly safety topics to field personnel.
• Conduct orientations and training classes on safety practices for various jobsites.
• Administer the field substance‑abuse program.

Requirements

Candidates must possess an occupational safety or health degree or equivalent experience, at least five years of construction safety experience, and strong communication and computer skills. A Journeyman Electrician license and OSHA 500 Trainer certification are preferred, and the position requires physical ability to work on diverse job sites.

• Occupational safety/health degree or equivalent training/experience.
• Minimum 5 years construction safety experience.
• Journeyman Electrician license preferred.
• OSHA 500 Trainer Course in construction standards preferred.
• Ability to enforce applicable regulations and recognize hazards.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
• Proficient with Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Physical ability to work on job sites, stand, walk, bend, climb, etc.
