Color Chemist

Description

• Work with internal and external R&D scientists/chemists, plant personnel, marketing, and sales managers/ salespeople.
• Ensure that the color formulas developed in the laboratory work and are reproducible in the plant, distribution centers and dealers. Will also involve themselves with production scale-up, launch, and maintain product line. Support manufacturing and field concerns through problem solving and root cause analysis.
• Follow PPG's safety, ethics, and all code of conducts as shared by PPG policies.
• Travel to support other PMC plants in US, Little Rock Plant, OKC Plant and Kansas City..
• Ensure compliance with data security and integrity standards in handling color measurement and formulation data.
• Manage color data systems, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and accessibility of color information across platforms.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for color software applications used in formulation, color matching, and quality control processes.
• Manage work independently, work with customers, perform 6S and lab safety upkeep, and develop and support standard processes.
• Train and assist team members and end-users in the use of color software and hardware, promoting best practices in color data management.
• Analyze color data to support product development, quality assurance, and customer specifications, using advanced software tools.
• Collaborate with IT and software vendors to implement updates, upgrades, and integrations of color-related software and hardware tools.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and any other related sciences with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant coatings industry experience.
• Must have experience with color software.
• MS Word/ Excel/Power point, Project, LFA, LIMS, SAP and Oracle applications required.
• Knowledge of epoxy, polyurethane, polysiloxane, inorganic zinc silicate, water base products formulating principles and solvent base formulating is necessary.
• 3+ years' experience in laboratory work and be able to read, understand and modify color formulae; and pass a color blindness test.
• Knowledge in Color Science (color spaces, color difference equations etc.) and color measurement instruments is preferred.
• IT skills related to managing and analyzing color data, including database management, data integrity, and integration of color data systems.
• Knowledge of design of experiments principles is desired.
