Meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel to develop relationships with key client points of contact.
Develops substation calculations, including, but not limited to, insulation, AC station service, DC systems and battery sizing, voltage drop, cable sizing, and conduit fill.
Supports the preparation of proposals and client presentations during the proposal process.
Prepares and develops substation design packages, including, but not limited to, physical arrangement above and below grade, protective relaying and control, electrical studies such as grounding and lightning analysis, and lighting and security.
Identifies, communicates and supports the resolution of issues on projects as needed.
Applies intermediate knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and other industry and utility standards, guides, specifications and procedures.
Works with the project manager to support the project schedule and meet deadlines.
Performs design quality reviews.
Prepares design sketches, cost estimates, equipment specifications, bill of materials, and other required deliverables.
Supports substation projects from the conceptual phase through completion.
Researches and compiles project-related data as required by the project managers.
Supports client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate technical results and project status.
Supports field inspections for substation facilities on public and private utility systems.
Works closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to the client’s satisfaction and that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.

Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI.
Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.Protection & Control:
Strong knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, including understanding of three-phase power systems.
Successful completion (i.e. passing) FE or EIT, or PE, preferred.
Substation physical layout, electrical clearances, rigid and strain bus design, ground grid design, surge and direct stroke protection, and raceway design.Both:
Knowledge of basic protection principles and practices for transmission lines, distribution feeders, and major substation equipment.
3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
Familiarity with microprocessor-based protection and control systems with the ability to understand one-lines and control schematics.Physical:
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Strong computer skills. (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
