The Assistant Chief Engineer is a key player in operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment and building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. This role leads the engineering team to ensure optimal building performance, safety, and cost‑saving in‑house maintenance solutions that support JLL’s business objectives.
Day‑to‑day duties include supervising preventive and corrective maintenance, managing work orders through a Computerized Maintenance Management System, and meeting service level agreements and client‑specific KPIs. The position also mentors team members, monitors building automation systems, responds to alarms, keeps detailed equipment and safety logs, and provides high‑quality service to tenants while supporting after‑hours and on‑call rotations.
Required qualifications are a high school diploma or GED with technical training, a current Universal EPA/CFC license, and at least four years of comprehensive building‑engineering experience covering HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance. Candidates must hold a valid Tennessee driver’s license, demonstrate strong communication skills, be proficient with Microsoft Office and CMMS tools, and be able to manage corrective and preventive actions while responding to emergency calls within 45 minutes.
Preferred qualifications include two years of trade‑school or apprenticeship experience in electrical, refrigeration, HVAC, or plumbing, hands‑on knowledge of commercial system design, the ability to act as interim Chief Engineer, familiarity with OSHA regulations and JLL’s safety culture, a proactive approach to cost‑saving, and experience in museum or historic facilities.
The position is based onsite in Memphis, TN, with a Tuesday‑Saturday shift (7:00 AM‑4:00 PM) and required on‑call rotation. Compensation ranges from $36.00 to $40.00 per hour, and visa sponsorship is not available; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
