The Field Collector provides supportive engineering services by gathering detailed telecommunications information on‑site. This position requires working‑level knowledge of fiber networks and is responsible for validating existing field designs and layouts of aerial, buried, and underground OSP infrastructure, including conduit, handholes, building entrances, and riser facilities.
- Identify, photograph, and document cables, poles, terminals, pedestals, handholes, and other OSP infrastructure
- Capture accurate measurements of attachment heights, span distances, utility structures, and distances to centerlines, property lines, and curbs
- Identify power and communication facilities and ownership on utility poles
- Record bonding, grounding, guying, and anchor information
- Deliver detailed field notes and photographs to the engineering team
- Identify obstructions to fiber placement and propose mitigation strategies
- Read and interpret digital GIS maps, conduit records, and layout drawings
- Utilize measurement wheels, height sticks, pull finders, GPS devices, MH/HH hooks, and laser rangefinders
- Operate electronic devices such as iPad, iPhone, laptop, and manage file sharing and email
- Update completion dates and job information in Insite
- Work independently with minimal supervision to achieve daily objectives
- Collaborate with Engineering and Field Engineering teams to resolve client issues
- Read as‑built prints, identify conflicts, and select routing and equipment for projects
- Identify utilities, potential conflicts, and regulatory violations (RUS, NESC, GO95, NEC)
- Resolve problems using judgment within defined policies and guidelines
- Follow OSHA, state, and local safety standards
- Walk up to 3 miles per day on gravel, pavement, or grass
- Work in poor weather conditions such as heat, snow, rain, or wind

- Apply knowledge of OSP construction techniques
- Maintain regular, punctual, and predictable attendance
- 2+ years experience in fiber‑optic/telecommunications construction
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of fiber cable design, pole line construction, conduit system design, and make‑ready issues
- Experience obtaining right‑of‑ways and easements and noting them on field reports
- Familiarity with GIS (ESRI) and shapefile functionality
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD (a plus)
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, acceptable driving record, and ability to pass drug screen and background check
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn new technical systems and tools
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Travel extensively and work on‑site for projects in various states
- Work outdoors 95% of the time
- Travel up to 100% of the time, by air or vehicle, with overnight stays up to two weeks
- Work safely with or without supervision
