All interns participate in AvalonBay’s Summer Learning Series, where construction leaders share insights about various roles and the overall construction process. The program also emphasizes safety, teaching interns about the Incident‑Free Workplace culture, safety laws and best practices.
Interns will gain hands‑on experience in the management of multi‑family apartment projects. Depending on the track, they may work on site activities such as concrete, framing, mechanical rough‑ins, finishes, budgeting and scheduling, or support redevelopment of occupied communities while balancing resident needs. In the support services track, interns assist with planning and estimating, applying financial and business analysis to new builds. Throughout, they collaborate with superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, engineers and architects, and learn how real‑time updates to RFIs, directives and schedules are coordinated.
Qualified candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate program in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. The internship is open to students with or without prior construction experience; strong analytical, communication and organizational abilities are essential.
AvalonBay supports its teams with development opportunities and a values‑driven culture. Employees receive on‑the‑job training, exposure to a growing industry, discount programs and a workplace built on integrity, caring and continuous improvement.
