A Driver with a Class B CDL is responsible for safely operating a collection truck and providing prompt, courteous waste removal services to customers. The driver must ensure the vehicle meets the company's safety standards before each operation and adhere to all company, state, and federal regulations while driving.
Key duties include performing comprehensive pre- and post‑operation vehicle inspections to verify tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls, and reporting any safety issues on standard forms. The driver follows the designated route sheet, reads maps, and services each customer as assigned, operating manual or automatic controls to lift, load, compact, and dispose of refuse at the proper facility.
The driver interacts courteously with customers, dispatchers, and coworkers, tags unsatisfactory waste containers, monitors waste for unacceptable material, and cleans accidental spills following safety policies. They also monitor vehicle condition throughout the shift, clean waste from the packer blade and truck body, complete required route and productivity sheets, VCRs, and other reports, and maintain productivity standards while participating in the company's ReSOP safety program.
Minimum requirements include a Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver’s License with an air‑brake endorsement. Pay ranges from $22.40 to $30.80 per hour, varying by locality.
