  • Procure, fabricate, and assemble electrical and mechanical components, subsystems and complete system assembly of engineering prototypes for research programs
  • Documentation of test setup, major procedures, findings/results
  • Troubleshoot and solve electrical and mechanical problems where objectives are clearly defined but course of action must be considered and determined
  • Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and systems teams for end-to-end hardware integration.
  • Perform schematic capture and PCB layout for complex embedded and power electronics boards.
  • Design fixtures, electrical and electronic subsystems, instrumentation, data acquisition, mechanical and thermal subsystems, that facilitate the evaluation of electrical systems intended for a wide variety of applications
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of standard laboratory equipment and facilities including calibration of instruments and monitoring devices
  • Perform signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC analysis for high-speed and mixed-signal designs.
  • Develop and implement test procedures for electrical systems and document performance characteristics.
  • Perform all work in accordance with EHS guidelines and compliance policies
  • Design and commission power and signal interface circuits and corresponding printed circuit boards (PCB) for controllers and instrumentations applied in power conversion systems

  • High-voltage probes, isolated measurement gear, double-pulse test setups
  • Substantial experience in the design of test fixtures, including electrical, thermal, mechanical, and instrumentation technologies. Proficiency with lab validation tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers).
  • Familiarity with:
  • Power analyzers, electronic loads, SMUs, thermal cameras
  • FPGA/Embedded: Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, ModelSim, ARM/Keil MDK, IAR Embedded Workbench
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
  • Working knowledge of the electrical codes and standards that apply to large scale energy systems
  • Collaboration: Git, SVN, Jira, Confluence
  • Experience in designing and commissioning of electrical/electronic circuits and printed circuit board (PCB) layout applied in power conversion systems with considerations on signal fidelity, noise, EMI/EMS, and thermal management
  • JTAG debuggers, in-circuit emulators, boundary scan tools
  • Familiarity with Arc Flash analysis and testing.
  • Preliminary data processing skills and using MS Excel and writing reports in MS Word
  • Working knowledge of low, medium & high voltage electrical distribution
  • PCB Design: Altium Designer, OrCAD, Cadence Allegro, KiCad, Mentor Graphics (Expedition, PADS)
  • Masters degree in electrical engineering or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience, with a primary focus in technology applied to power electronics and/or embedded systems or a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience, with a primary focus in technology applied to power electronics and/or embedded systems or an Associates degree in electrical engineering or related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience with a primary focus in technology applied to power electronics and/or embedded systems
  • Familiarity with Lockout Tagout (LOTO) Safety Programs and LOTO Compliance.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship. This role is not eligible for employer immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Soldering/rework stations (including BGA rework), multimeters, function generators
  • Demonstrated successful track record of completing tasks and deliverables on schedule and on budget.
  • Oscilloscopes (high bandwidth), logic analyzers, spectrum/network analyzers
  • Safety First mindset – proactively keeps an eye out for safety issues with initiative to stop work as needed.
