Director of Development

Description

The Head of Development will lead the end-to-end development of utility-scale renewable energy projects (solar, wind, storage, and hybrid solutions). This role is responsible for driving project origination, securing land, managing permitting and regulatory approvals, and ensuring projects reach financial close. The ideal candidate will combine strategic vision with hands-on execution, building and managing a high-performing development team while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

• Support project financial modeling, risk assessment, and investment decisions.
• Negotiate key contracts including land leases, development agreements, and joint ventures.
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), legal, and finance teams.
• Build, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary development team.
• Manage relationships with landowners, local authorities, and community stakeholders.
• Identify new market opportunities and partnerships to expand the project pipeline.
• Represent the company in industry forums, regulatory consultations, and public hearings.
• Define and execute the development strategy for utility-scale renewable projects in target markets.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, planning, and regulatory requirements.
• Establish KPIs and performance metrics to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
• Oversee all phases of project development: site identification, land acquisition, permitting, grid connection, and stakeholder engagement.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in renewable energy project development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Strong understanding of permitting processes, grid interconnection, and regulatory frameworks.
• Ability to manage complex projects and multiple priorities.
• Proven track record of delivering utility-scale projects from concept to financial close.
• Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Leadership and team-building capabilities.
