In the Planner I role, you will contribute to projects, lead analysis, represent Toole Design in project and stakeholder meetings, and reinforce our reputation as trusted experts. You'll work collaboratively with teams of planners, landscape architects, urban designers, and engineers. Typical types of project work you can expect include data analysis; production of maps, graphics, and presentations; community engagement; plan writing; and occasional field work.

  • Prior consulting experience, even as an intern
  • Proficiency using Excel for data and demographic analysis experience with ArcGIS and/or QGIS and creating webmaps
  • Experience conducting public outreach and engagement
  • A bachelor's or master's degree (or additional work experience) in urban planning or a related field
  • You know how to get the message across, whether it's written, verbal, or graphic
  • You can build relationships, bring enthusiasm to exciting projects, and are detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
  • You enjoy collaborating across disciplines to do great work for clients
  • Strong cultural competency with people from backgrounds different than your own
  • Strong writing skills
  • You thrive on engaging communities in the public outreach process
  • Experience in graphic production in Adobe Creative Suite, including data visualization, graphic design, and document layout
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Experience with bicycle and pedestrian projects

Work Schedule for a Planner I

This planning position with a focus on active transportation-related data analysis, planning, policy, and design earns a competitive salary and great benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, a health savings account (HSA), and a flexible spending account (FSA). All staff receive 8 holidays and earn at least 16 days of PTO over the course of the year. We practice what we preach and ensure that our employees also have access to transportation by providing them with financial incentives to bike, walk, or use transit for a better quality of life.

We are targeting a salary range of $66,000-$78,000 for this position.

This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home up to two days per week. The Seattle office of Toole Design is conveniently located in the heart of Seattle's Business District, blocks from the Pike Place Market, Seattle Art Museum, Central Public Library, and Waterfront. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit or ferry. RapidRide lines C, D and E along with multiple local bus routes stop right in front, and Sound Transit light rail and multiple Sounder Commuter rail lines are a block from the office. Bike lanes are close by on 2nd and 4th avenues.
