  • Perform quarterly quality checks on job functions/individual outputs in area. Report findings to management quarterly.
  • Oversees the resources and financial issues of a work group and associated projects.
  • Coordinate substation design efforts with collocated neighboring utilities or customer utilities to provide for integrated and reliable substation designs.
  • Lead, support, prepare and review the writing of material specifications, material contracts, outside service contracts, construction inspection and any related contract management for assigned projects.
  • Act as a detailed Subject Matter Expert with regard to the work and roles of the team. Assist in the training of new staff and cross training of existing staff. (As Assigned by Manager)
  • In the absence of management, evaluate workloads and priorities and assign appropriate resources to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of departmental products and services.
  • Participate with the department's coop program.
  • Lead, support and provide technical direction and task assignments for the engineering, procurement, contracted construction, contract administration, construction management, and records/drawings management of assigned projects to ensure completion within budget, schedules, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide input to the development of performance management documentation.
  • Represents OPPD as a technical expert for industry groups.
  • Monitor, coach and recommend additional training solutions for team members to develop the skills, knowledge and experience to be effective in role.
  • Accountable for design safety, personnel safety, reliability, operability, economy, timely completion, and within budget of District and customer substation assigned projects.
  • Participate in engineering, planning, estimating, design, drafting, analysis, permitting, specification development, contracts, work orders, and close-out activities.
  • Provide critical support for generation station transformers and related high voltage equipment.

  • Five years of experience in substation design, project management, system planning or operations. Extensive knowledge and understanding of substation components and their functions.
  • Four (4) year Bachelor of Science degree in (Structural/ Civil / Electrical) Engineering degree (ABET-accredited degree)
  • Demonstrates creativity, foresight and mature judgement in planning, organizing, guiding, and solving problems.
  • Master's degree in Engineering or Business
  • Five (5) years of equivalent engineering work experience. Master's degree may be considered for up to two years of experience
  • A valid driver's license
  • Familiarity and experience with Ventyx (Asset Suite), Cognos, AutoDesk (CAD, Inventor, Vault), Bentley MicroStation, PeopleSoft, MS Project, SharePoint
  • Demonstrated capability to lead, motivate, and develop technical team members including the ability to encourage diverse ideas and concepts and effectively deal with conflict.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certificate, NERC, or other certification or means for reciprocity within six months.
  • Demonstrated design capability of all aspects of installations within discipline.
  • Demonstrated capability to work in a team environment while completing independent tasks and assignments.
  • Advanced MS Office Professional Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
