Description

The Assistant Superintendent assists in coordinating and supervising craft employee activities on construction projects. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the role ensures work is performed according to design, budget, and schedule.

• Coordinate movements of eyes, hands, and fingers with full use of hands, arms and fingers.
• Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding.
• Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally more.
• Assist with supervision of craft personnel to ensure project is built by design, within budget and on schedule.
• Assist in planning work schedule, determining manpower levels, material quantities, equipment requirements, etc.
• Monitor personnel for compliance with safety and working procedures.
• Advise Superintendent of potential problems and assist in problem solving.

Requirements

The position requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and preferably formal journeyman carpentry or supervisory training. Candidates should have at least five years of construction experience (or two years with a four‑year degree), with a degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering considered a plus.

Key competencies include strong communication and organizational abilities, deep knowledge of construction operations, safety regulations, and the capacity to motivate staff and handle varied situations. Physical capabilities such as good vision, manual dexterity, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds are essential, as is proficiency in English and business math.

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: High School Diploma plus formal journeyman carpentry training and/or supervisory training courses.
• Required: 5 years construction experience or 2 years experience with a 4‑year degree.
• Preferred: Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• In‑depth understanding of construction operations and processes.
• Thorough knowledge of all safety requirements.
• Ability to motivate employees and handle different situations.
• Must be able to see well (naturally or with correction).
• Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or work at any height.

• Comprehend business math and interpret data from various sources.
