Description

Our Durham, NC laboratory, part of Enthalpy Analytical, services air, water, and soil testing and operates the EPA M325B program, which requires high operational efficiency for a bi‑weekly sampling cycle. As a Group Leader you will supervise a well‑trained staff, manage workflow, ensure timely and defensible data delivery, and oversee sample analysis, method development, report preparation, and instrument maintenance.

• Supervise staff, manage hiring/firing, conduct disciplinary actions, and resolve conflicts.
• Communicate with clients, schedule projects, and ensure timely delivery of defensible data.
• Perform sample analysis using EPA M325B methods, develop and validate new analytical methods.
• Prepare final reports, data summaries, and review documentation for accuracy.
• Conduct instrument calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and update SOPs.
• Maintain consumables, parts inventory, and organized records of sample preparation and analysis.
• Lead efficiency or accuracy improvement projects and address non‑conformance issues.
• Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance and Health & Safety programs.

Requirements

The role requires an associate degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field, and preferably five years of relevant experience. Candidates must be proficient in the department’s analytical methods, understand the underlying scientific principles, and be capable of organizing tasks, communicating priorities, and handling non‑routine samples. People‑management experience (2+ years) and familiarity with ChemStation, MassHunter, TD‑GC‑MS, LIMS, and VOC testing are strongly preferred.

• Hold an associate degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Minimum five years of laboratory experience; two years of people‑management experience preferred.
• Proficient with ChemStation, MassHunter, TD‑GC‑MS, LIMS, and VOC testing.
• Strong organizational, time‑management, verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, think strategically, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
