Estimator - Civil Focus

Description

The Estimator supports civil work for upcoming solar and BESS projects by generating detailed cost estimates, coordinating with Preconstruction and Operations teams, soliciting subcontractor pricing, and presenting self‑perform estimates. The role focuses on establishing budget certainty and aiding pre‑construction planning.

• Read and interpret plans, specifications, proposals, and subcontractor quotes.
• Generate project cost allocations for the team.
• Perform quantity take‑offs and calculate material, labor, equipment, and specialty costs.
• Communicate work methods, production requirements, and historical data with site teams.
• Create detailed quantity and cost take‑offs from engineering packages.
• Determine crew sizing, resources, and productivity rates.
• Plan and organize estimate preparation, pricing, scheduling, and presentation.
• Handle additional estimating and preconstruction tasks as assigned.
• Prepare and deliver internal preview and final estimate reviews.
• Compile cost comparisons to identify commercially and technically optimal options.
• Recommend solutions based on cost, engineering, quality, and material availability.
• Review schedules, estimate installation rates, and plan civil execution strategies.
• Research historical project data to develop guidelines for future estimates.
• Track project clarifications and assumptions through contracting phase.
• Travel 5–10 times per year for pre‑construction site visits.

Requirements

• Demonstrate teamwork, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership.
• Manage time effectively and work self‑motivated.
• Possess conceptual estimating skills and civil design knowledge for solar construction.
• Have construction field experience.
• Minimum 3 years estimating experience in renewable energy, with knowledge of civil installation methods and material pricing.
• Hold a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Exhibit a positive, professional attitude and strong customer service.
• Communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
• Proficient with HCSS, Microsoft Office 365, Bluebeam, AutoCAD; civil estimating software a plus.
• Preferably hold a post‑secondary degree in construction management or engineering.
• Noise level low to medium, louder on job sites.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lb occasionally.
