Apprentices will join a small team of technicians and learn to perform scheduled, unscheduled, preventive and troubleshooting maintenance on wind turbines. The training emphasizes health and safety, working at height, at sea and in all weather conditions using complex mechanical and electrical equipment.
The three‑year programme combines two years of classroom‑based training at a dedicated wind‑turbine facility in North Wales with a third year of on‑site experience at the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm. Successful completion awards an NVQ Level 3 in Wind Turbine Operations and Maintenance and a Level 3 Diploma in Wind Turbine Maintenance.
The apprenticeship requires full‑time study during term time for the first two years, after which apprentices are deployed to the offshore site for practical work in the third year. Candidates must live within an hour of the site and be prepared for shift work, on‑call duties and occasional standby periods.
RWE Renewables UK Management Ltd is offering a full‑time, fixed‑term Wind Turbine Technician Apprenticeship based in Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl (North Wales) and the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm at Mostyn. Applicants must have five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4/C or above, including Science, Maths and English. The role offers a starting salary of £17,510 in the first year, with incremental increases, plus pension and private single medical cover.
The application closes on 20 February 2026, with an assessment centre on 21 April and a start date in August 2026. RWE provides term‑time accommodation with rent and utilities covered, reimburses daily commute costs to college, and pays reasonable travel expenses for the assessment day. Employees receive 25 days holiday plus public holidays.
